Kindergartener

Sammy doesn’t tell me what happens in school. He happily runs home from the bus stop, backpack flapping, ready for an afternoon snack (a yogurt/strawberry smoothie is a favorite). I beg him for details about his day. “Just tell me one thing!” Here is what I know for sure…

1. He will tell me (in a 3 hour storyline) what exactly happened at recess. Where people were, who they were with, what they were doing, what they were supposed to be doing…. From what I gather, there are some girls who chase him during recess. I asked him what would happen if they caught him. “I don’t know” he says after a long pause, “Either kiss me or kill me”.

2. He comes home with photocopied booklets he has colored in with crayons. He will recite his “I can read” books over and over to anyone who will listen. We collect them all in a manila envelope that is perpetually lost.

3. Perhaps the most complex and amazing thing that Sammy has learned in Kindergarten is the existence of a new piece of revolutionary cutlery, the Spork. The Spork, apparently, is both a spoon AND a fork.

Very cute. His "kiss me or kill me" comment is a keeper for the books!

Thanks for the book recommendations on my blog!
